CSW 61 BRIEFING
Thursday 27 April, 15:00 - 17:00, Kazak / Cinema room XIV, Palais des Nations

The 61st session of the Commission on the Status of Women was held in New York during 13 to 24 March 2017 and its priority theme was ‘Women’s economic empowerment in the changing world of work’.

The CSW is the UN’s largest gathering on gender equality, women’s empowerment and women’s rights and this year 162 Member States, including 89 representatives at the ministerial level, over 3,900 representatives from 580 civil society organizations from 138 countries, came together to discuss measures to promote, and to overcome challenges to, women’s full and equal participation in the economy.

The Agreed Conclusions (http://undocs.org/E/CN.6/2017/L.5), adopted after many days of late night negotiations, will serve the international community as a roadmap for it efforts in advancing women’s economic rights in the changing world of work.

Geneva is host to a large number of intergovernmental processes, international organisations and civil society organisations and a crucial arena for advancing women’s rights in the world of work. It is therefore with great pleasure that UN Women and ILO will brief the various actors in International Geneva on the work and outcome of CSW 61.
