Equal participation of women and men in decision-making is not only the right thing to do, it also increases institutional effectiveness. Achieving this begins by raising awareness of implicit biases, promoting good personnel practices that uphold equality of opportunity, and breaking the silence when women or other groups are underrepresented. I am proud to have been one of the founding members of the Vienna branch of International Gender Champions. Though much has been achieved, much more work is yet to be done.
