Greece has a long tradition and a solid basis in protecting women and girls from any form of discrimination and it is staunchly promoting sustainable gender equality and women empowerment in social, political and economic life. These fundamental international principles and values  are fully enshrined in our Constitution and a series of legislative and policy measures and widely respected in the society. Despite the financial crisis, my country is constantly seeking new ways to further strengthen women equality and empowerment, keeping this cause high on the agenda, and will spare no efforts in this regard,  through measures such as the new National Action Plan on Gender Equality 2016-2020. We strongly believe that the non-discrimination against women and the promotion of their empowerment will continue to be vehemently  defended in the society and the public life
