Annalena Baerbock
President of the United Nations General Assembly at its 80th session, United Nations
Annalena Baerbock

The United Nations must truly serve all the peoples of the world, of which, everywhere in the world, half are women and girls. This is not just a matter of representation, it is a matter of credibility, to practice what we preach. The empowerment of women and girls must be integral to all decisions we make.

I support the IGC Panel Parity Pledge.

I support the IGC gender-based violence pledge.

Personal Commitments

Thirty years after the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and twenty-five years after the adoption of Resolution 1325, I will mainstream gender equality across the entire agenda of the 80th session of the General Assembly, including when my office organizes events and sets priorities for the work of the General Assembly.
As President of the General Assembly, I commit to leading by example: if you see it, you can be it. More than 60% of my team are women, including parity in leadership positions, and I will remain committed to gender equality in my decisions on personnel. I will also continue to ensure that gender mainstreaming and gender equality remains our guiding principle – including when appointing co-facilitators for intergovernmental processes in the General Assembly. I will continue to strongly encourage Member States to nominate women candidates for the position of Secretary-General.
