Gender equality has long been recognized as an essential element to the sustainable development of our societies, and a more equitable world can only be achieved with the empowerment and full participation of women. Gender equality, is a core principle in all aspects of the work of the United Nations and is also essential to tackling sexual exploitation and abuse.
