Hugh Adsett’s International Gender Champions (IGC) commitments 2026
1. I will champion gender equality by integrating gender‑responsive language and priorities into diplomatic speeches, bilateral and multilateral negotiations, and all internal and external communications. This commitment will include actively advancing the implementation of the Embassy of Canada’s Gender Pledge.
2. In my role as Ambassador and Permanent Representative, I will use my platform to promote gender equality within international organizations and in bilateral diplomatic, political, and economic relations. This will involve:
(a) supporting the OPCW in strengthening diversity and inclusion within the Technical Secretariat and in applying a gender‑equality and diversity lens to the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention;
(b) advancing the ICC’s gender priorities, including supporting the implementation of the Court’s Strategy on Gender Equality and Workplace Culture;
(c) promoting accountability initiatives related to sexual and gender‑based violence within both the ICC and ICJ; and
(d) collaborating with Dutch leaders, civil society partners, and diplomatic counterparts from a range of country contexts to advance gender equality and address emerging issues in the field.
I support the IGC Panel Parity Pledge.
I support the IGC gender-based violence pledge.
