João Mira Gomes
Ambassador, Permanent Representative,
Permanent Mission of Portugal to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva

We are decades late in achieving gender equality. No other injustice has held back half of humanity for so long. Empowering women and promoting gender equality is not just about fairness, it’s about unlocking the full potential of half of the world’s population. When women rise, we all rise. In the year we celebrate the 25th anniversary of UNSC Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, I am committed to engaging in diplomatic discussions on women’s full, equal and meaningful participation in peace processes and on their contribution to preventing conflict, partnering with all and protecting peace.
I support the IGC Panel Parity Pledge.
I support the IGC gender-based violence pledge.
Personal Commitments
I pledge to create opportunities for all women in my team to take at least one learning and training opportunity annually, including by ensuring that they have the conditions to allocate time for learning and training in their work-schedules and that this is compatible with their work-life balance. I will support their career aspirations, work goals and ensure their voices are heard in the workplace.
I pledge to promote work-life balance conditions to all women in my team, which is a key aspect for the promotion of women’s active participation and leadership in the workplace and in other dimensions of society.
