As the first oceanographer and global south woman to lead the International Seabed Authority as Secretary General, I strongly believe that breaking barriers is not only about individual achievement but also about opening doors and helping to create meaningful pathways for women to participate, advocate and lead in areas of historical underrepresentation; particularly in science, law and intergovernmental processes. Diverse perspectives, both geographical and gender-based, lead to better research practice, stronger science-policy interface and more robust legal frameworks and governance. By empowering young women, while also bringing young men champions to the table, at all levels of ocean and deep seabed related matters, we unlock a rich pool of talent and ensure decisions are representative, harmonious and beneficial for humankind.
I support the IGC Panel Parity Pledge.
I support the IGC gender-based violence pledge.
