Personal Commitments
25 years after its approval, I commit to strengthening the Women, Peace and Security agenda in Geneva, as women and girls continue to fight for a seat at peace negotiations and processes after conflict and to make their voice heard in all prevention measures that seek to ensure that conflict does not erupt. I will do this in 2026 by leading, alongside Mexico and Togo, the Gender Focal Point Group in the Arms Treaty Convention, where we are working on a Repository of GBV and gender-related materials.
We must work every day to ensure that women and girls do not remain voiceless victims of gender based and sexual violence in conflict. I will continue to strive to ensure gender integration in all disarmament and security processes, including by making article 7.4 of the Arms Trade Treaty (which requires that states parties—when deciding whether to approve an arms export— take into account the risk that the items may be used to commit or facilitate serious acts of gender-based violence (GBV) or violence against women and children) a reality in the national policies of each of the signatory countries through advocacy, sharing of best practices, and examples.
