María Sebastián de Erice
Ambassador,
Permanent Mission of Spain to UNOV and other International Organizations in Vienna
We consider gender equality not only as a hallmark of our policy and values, but also as a strategy to become more efficient, respectful and whole. As a baseline, we stand by the fact that gender equality is an irrevocable human right.
I support the IGC Panel Parity Pledge.
I support the IGC gender-based violence pledge.
Personal Commitments
We will promote flexible meeting times and shorter, well-structured meetings to increase efficiency and focus. These timetable adjustments will foster a more equitable work environment that supports both men and specially women’s work-life balance, serving as a pragmatic approach to the recognition of gender equality as a universal right.
We will adopt gender-inclusive language in all official communications and resolutions. Through this terminology, such as replacing gender-specific words like “men” for neutral terms like “staff”, or using both the masculine and feminine form of the plural, we will erode the unconscious bias and promote the empowerment and visibility of women at our workplace. This commitment is easily measurable, time-bound, and realistic, telling of the spirit and values of the Permanent Mission, and designed to ensure that all individuals, regardless of their gender, feel recognized and respected.
