Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls is essential to achieving peaceful, prosperous and just societies. The work streams of the UN system in Geneva provide ample and important opportunities to advance gender equality. As Ireland’s Permanent Representative I look forward to playing my part.

Personal Commitments
My team and I will work to include a gender transformative approach when drafting recommendations for the Universal Periodic Review; when engaging Treaty Body mechanisms and during resolution drafting sessions.
As a Disarmament Impact Group Co-Chair alongside Australia, Namibia, Philippines, and UNIDIR, to advocate for the integration of gender perspectives into multilateral disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation fora in Geneva and the wider UN system including by championing the active and meaningful participation of women at multilateral fora.
