Simon Manley
Ambassador, Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of the United Kingdom to the United Nations Office at Geneva
Simon Manley

Geneva is at the heart of the multilateral system, home to human rights, humanitarian, health, trade, and disarmament UN agencies, bodies and initiatives – I am committed to using all of these mechanisms in concert with my fellow Gender Champions, in the public and private sector and civil society to further gender equality. I will promote gender equality both inside and outside the Mission as we look to build back better from the COVID-19 pandemic. This will require our collective and collaborative efforts, particularly to address the disproportionate impact it has had on women and girls around the world. The pandemic risks reversing decades of progress towards gender equality. Together, we must ensure that women’s and girls’ rights are advanced, not regressed.

I support the IGC Panel Parity Pledge.

I support the IGC gender-based violence pledge.

Personal Commitments

To continue to champion women’s and girls’ rights including sexual and reproductive health and rights amidst the pushback across the multilateral system by continuing to engage with women and girls directly impacted and work with diverse partners to protect and advance their rights in the next year;
To co-chair the World Trade Organisation’s Trade and Gender Working Group together with Cabo Verde and El Salvador to ensure WTO members and observers work to increase women’s participation in global trade, share best practice on removing barriers to women’s participation in world trade and apply a ‘gender lens’ across the work of the WTO.
