I am glad to be an International Gender Champion and to contribute to the collective effort of breaking down gender barriers. The elimination of discrimination against women and girls is a key priority for Mexico. We make every effort to mainstream gender equality in all the work we do across international organizations in Geneva.
Gender equality is not only a human rights matter. It is also an essential element of democracy and global justice. It is part of the solutions to the challenges that the international community is facing, and a precondition for more just, secure and sustainable societies.
I commit to undertake the following:
Promote an organisational culture that supports both men and women to achieve work life balance and does not discriminate against employees who need to provide care for others (e.g., avoid calling meetings in the morning before 8:15 am or in the evenings). Eliminate gender stereotypes in the allocation of responsibilities by assigning tasks based on the individuals’ skills, aptitudes and aspirations and not on stereotypes.
Sponsor at least three initiatives (resolution, decisions, events or joint statements) with strong language on gender equality and empowerment in international organisations.
