Vladimir Voronkov

Gender equality and women’s human rights are values that are not only right up front in the UN Charter, they are also part of the DNA of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism. I am committed to furthering gender equality and the empowerment of women in all of my Office’s functions, be it in our coordination role within the United Nations, or in the support we offer to Member States with policy advice and capacity-building. As an International Gender Champion, I will continue to be a strong advocate for women in their fight against violent extremism and terrorism, and will continue to support and amplify women’s voices.

I support the IGC Panel Parity Pledge.

Personal Commitments

I will strive for at least 80% of my Office’s projects and programmes to be assessed at Gender Marker 2 by 2023. Gender Marker 2 refers to programmatic activities that integrate gender mainstreaming considerations throughout and are expected to make a significant contribution to gender equality, empower women, and/or address women’s specific needs.
I will promote gender-responsive approaches to counter-terrorism and violent extremism conducive to terrorism through the implementation of a comprehensive Gender Policy and Implementation Plan by 2023.
