On 21 February, the Asser Institute based in the Hague and in partnership with the Rule of Law Research Programme of the Erasmus School of Law will host at its office the launch of the book entitled: "EU Anti-Discrimination Law Beyond Gender" (Hart-Bloomsbury, Oxford 2018), co-edited by Dr Uladzislau Belavusau (Asser Institute – UvA) and Prof. Kristin Henrard (Erasmus University Rotterdam).
The book was written as the EU Equality Declarations (2000) reach their eighteenth year of existence. It is the first academic work to broadly assess the progress and pitfalls of EU anti-discrimination law as it has developed in the 21st century. The book particularly references the state of EU anti-discrimination law on the grounds of race and ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, age, and disability. The first two chapters, including the Foreword by President Koen Lenaerts of the European Court of Justice, can be read here.
At the book launch event, six of the book’s contributors will present their work in the volume. An aim of the event is to frame the book in the experiences of practitioners of anti-discrimination law in the European Union. Mr. William Romans, Senior Legal Adviser to the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, will act as chair and discussant to contextualise the book in practice.
