The International Gender Champions are pleased to welcome Pashtana Durrani to Geneva for a Roundtable Discussion on Friday, 8 May 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 CET.

Pashtana Durrani has helped more than 10,000 Afghan women and girls access education. In 2018, she launched LEARN Afghan as the country’s first digital school network—now operating underground to provide safe learning environments for girls under Taliban rule. Pashtana is a Harvard University graduate with an M.Ed. in Education Policy Analysis and serves as an International Scholar-in-Residence at the Wellesley Centers for Women. Her leadership and advocacy have been globally recognized—with honors such as Global Education Champion by the Malala Fund, BBC 100 Women, UN Young Activists Award, Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award, the Women’s Excellence Award from the World Economic Forum and recently, the Ginetta Sagan Award.
The hybrid discussion will be opened by David de Paiva, on behalf of the International Gender Champions Secretariat, and followed by an interactive discussion with Pashtana Durrani.
The event will take place at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, Maison de la Paix:
