Getting to Equal“Getting to Equal: The Future is Now” will take place from 11:00 to 12:30 on Tuesday, 8 March, at ILO headquarters, Geneva.

The high-level panel, which will be moderated by BBC journalist Ms Imogen Foulkes, will include ILO Director-General Mr Guy Ryder; US Ambassador and Permanent representative to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Her Excellency Ms Pamela Hamamoto; the Secretary-General of the International Organisation of Employers’, Ms Linda Kromjong; the General-Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation, Ms Sharan Burrow, and the Chief of the ILO’s Gender, Equality and Diversity Branch, Ms Shauna Olney.

Among the elements to be discussed will be the ILO commitment under the “Geneva Gender Champions” initiative” (GCC) to, among other activities, put in place an implementation plan for the ILO in the context of the 2030 Agenda. Gender issues figure in all 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals under the Agenda, but are of particular importance in the main ILO-related Goal 8 on decent work for all, as well as in Goal 5 on achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls and Goal 10 on reducing inequality within and among countries.

The event will focus on the call launched by the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda for a just and lasting transformation in the world of work. The panellists will discuss and debate the changes required to end all forms of discrimination against all women, and achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all women and men by 2030.
