The link between women's rights and trade were brought to the fore at the historic 'Declaration on Trade and Women’s Economic Empowerment' in Buenos Aires in December 2017. Intrigued by the distinct vocabulary divide between trade teams and human rights teams within the same missions and international organizations, Women@theTable held a lunch in April to discuss this for the first time with the storied Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI). Following on from this, an event on 'Aligning Gender, Rights & Trade' at the WTO Public Forum with CEDAW experts and representatives from the World Bank and Canada was organised. To maintain the momentum, Women@theTable also launched 'Women, Business and The Law' with the World Bank in three events in Geneva to discuss how to better use the awesome data set in crafting questions of depth and purpose at the TPR, and UPR, and at CEDAW.

To reprise the idea for a second round of discussion, Women@theTable invite you to an IGC-only breakfast that will bring together trade negotiators, human rights activists and think tanks for a thoughtful discussion on the links between women’s rights and trade.
