Gender equality is essential to building inclusive and thriving organisations, yet many institutions face challenges in transforming this vision into reality. Gender mainstreaming—a strategy that integrates gender equality perspectives into policies, programmes, and practices—plays a critical role in bridging this gap. However, limited institutional capacity and resources, often hinder the effective implementation of gender equality strategies. Committed leadership and targeted measures towards strengthening gender-transformative programming, institutional processes and organisational culture are key to overcoming these challenges and embedding gender equality into the core of organisational practices.

The interactive event ‘Making Gender Equality a Reality in Your Organisation’, organised by the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF), in partnership with the International Gender Champions, will draw from the experience of expert speakers to

equip participants with practical tools to integrate gender considerations into their organisational mandates;
spark candid discussions around challenges, organisational barriers and resistance;
explore tangible measures to strengthening institutional mechanisms and translate commitment into action;
exchange knowledge and best practices within the Geneva eco-system.

Format

The event will follow a dynamic "pitch roulette" format, featuring three expert speakers who will each present their organisation's approach to advancing gender equality in just 7 minutes. After the pitches, participants will have the opportunity to join interactive group discussions with the speaker of their choice, allowing for experience sharing and a deeper exploration of the topics most relevant to their needs and priorities. The event is open to senior leaders/ International Gender Champions, technical experts and focal points, as well as the wider community of researchers, policy-makers and practitioners.
