Preventing Violent Extremism: From Concept to Impact
12 February | 10:00 – 12:00 | Cinema Room, Room XIV, Palais des Nations, Geneva

Preventing violent extremism (PVE) has, over the past decade, evolved as a critical 'force multiplier' for counterterrorism, aiming to address the root causes of radicalisation and recruitment. During this period, GCERF has remained the only international organisation with a specific mandate on PVE. In the last three years, since February 12 was designated International PVE Day, the global environment has become more conducive to violent extremism, heightening the need to learn lessons in translating the PVE concept into impact.

Drawing on experiences from around the world, including Central Asia, this event will:

  • Screen testimonies from returnees, providing personal perspectives on rehabilitation and reintegration.
  • Host a panel discussion sharing insights on how the PVE concept has been translated into practical impact, building community resilience, reintegrating former terrorists, and reducing risk.

Speakers* (Panel Discussion & Opening Remarks)

  • H.E. Mr. Omar Sultanov, Ambassador and Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva (Opening Remarks)
  • Dr. Khalid Koser, Executive Director, GCERF

*subject to new additions and changes

Further details will be shared closer to the date. We look forward to your participation in this important event.
