On 1 July, OHCHR and the Team of Experts on Sexual Violence in Conflict will hold a joint side event, in the margins of the HRC session, on “Advancing accountability for conflict-related sexual violence: reflecting on the key drivers of change – the case of Kavumu”. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the SRSG on Sexual violence in conflict will open the event that will entail a screening of the Team of Experts’ short documentary on DRC followed by an interview on stage with key actors who have led the work in DRC, including the Chief of the Equality and Non-discrimination Branch, Abdoul Thioye. The objective of the event is to reflect and discuss key factors that have led to the groundbreaking Kavumu case and whether it could be replicated elsewhere.
