in Geneva
The IGC Disarmament Impact Group welcomes you to an interactive meeting on the margins of the 2nd session of the Preparatory Committee for the 2026 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT PrepCom) to discuss gendered approaches to nuclear policies and their relevance to the NPT regime.
This Side Event will look to build on the strong cross-regional engagement witnessed across the previous Review Cycle, as well as at the 1st Session of the NPT PrepCom in 2023, where there were calls from States Parties to support initiatives to further develop gender analysis in nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation and the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
In particular, the event will explore:
- What works to promote diversity among nuclear policy communities;
- Progress and challenges in integrating gender perspectives into nuclear research and technical cooperation programmes, and ensuring gender-responsive policies;
- Affinities between gendered approaches and a victim and survivor-centric approach to nuclear disarmament;
- Outcomes that can be achieved across the NPT Review Cycle and at the 2026 NPT Review Conference to strengthen gender equality, diversity and inclusion and the Treaty regime as a whole.
