A briefing will be held at the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) on September 18th to disseminate the recently launched World Bank Group publication titled Women, Business and the Law 2018.

Women, Business and the Law (WBL) is a World Bank Group project collecting unique data on the laws and regulations that restrict women's economic opportunities. Since 2009, WBL has enhanced the study of gender equality and informed discussions on improving women's economic opportunities and empowerment. The dataset offers objective and measurable benchmarks for global progress toward gender equality. Comparable across economies, the data is useful for research and policy discussions on improving women's economic opportunities. Now in its fifth edition, WBL has expanded coverage to 189 economies and 7 topics relevant to women's economic participation.

The briefing will open with a presentation by World Bank Group to discuss key findings, identify opportunities for reform, and highlight relevant country case studies. An interactive panel discussion will follow to raise questions, share experiences, and provide comments and suggestions.

Presenter: Tanya Primiani, co-author of the Women, Business and the Law 2018

Moderator: Jos Verbeek, Manager and Special Representative to the UN and WTO, World Bank.
