Despite global commitments to gender equality, women remain significantly underrepresented in diplomacy, international decision making and political leadership. According to the Women in Diplomacy Index, in 2024, only 21% of all ambassadors were women.

In response, prompt action is needed to achieve meaningful and equal representation, including joint efforts to provide spaces for networking and mentorship opportunities to ensure women are supported at all stages of their careers.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026, the International Gender Champions (IGC) The Hague Hub, to highlight their commitment to advance gender equality and advocate for women’s rights, is organizing an interactive mentoring session between senior leaders and junior officers, working in diplomacy and multilateralism. The mentoring session will be an opportunity to exchange reflections and ideas on how to advance women’s leadership in diplomacy.
