After Geneva, New York, Vienna, Nairobi and The Hague, the International Gender Champions network is excited to announce the launch of a new hub in Paris.
Founded in Geneva in 2015, the International Gender Champions (IGC) is a leadership network that brings together female and male decision-makers to break down gender barriers in their organizations and beyond. In four years, the network has rallied over 350 active Champions and Alumni from international organizations, governments, civil society and private sector, and has expanded to New York, Vienna, Nairobi, The Hague, and now Paris.
Founding members of the Paris IGC hub include the heads of the OECD, UNESCO, the International Organisation of La Francophonie, the head of Plan International France, and the Dean of the Paris School of International Affairs at Sciences Po.
At the soft opening of the Paris Peace Forum, UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated:
“I am pleased that tomorrow will mark the inauguration of the French hub of the International Gender Champions network, launched in Geneva in 2015, and of which I am honoured to be a member.”
The IGC-Paris is being launched at the Paris Peace Forum on 12 November 2019 with the exceptional participation of President Emmanuel Macron.
“By being selected by the Paris Peace Forum as one of its ten winning projects for innovative global governance last year, IGC was recognized as a powerful catalyst to engage leaders around the world in achieving meaningful change towards gender equality” Arancha González, Chair of the IGC Global Board stated, “I am delighted that a year later, we seize this opportunity to expand our reach to a new key location, and am confident that this will help us deepen our impact across new spheres of influence and sectors”.
By joining the network, Champions pledge to no longer take part in single-sex panels (as per the IGC Panel Parity Pledge), and undertake two additional commitments every year to advance gender equality in their organizations or programmatic work.
Key commitments include “increasing the number of gender-related courses” (Enrico Letta, Paris School of International Affairs, Sciences Po); “conducting an annual evaluation to monitor progress on gender equality” (Yvan Savy, Plan International France); and “pushing for gender equality at senior management levels” (Ambassador Anna Brandt, Permanent Delegation of Sweden to the OECD and UNESCO).
Champions are accountable of progress achieved during the year. Champions have also come together to advance gender through Impact Groups on Representation, Trade, Disarmament, Justice, and Standards.

Les Champions internationaux de l’égalité des sexes s’exportent à Paris !
Après Genève, New York, Vienne, Nairobi et La Haye, le réseau des Champions internationaux de l’égalité des sexes (International Gender Champions ou IGC) est heureux d'annoncer le lancement d'un nouveau hub à Paris.
Fondé à Genève en 2015, IGC est un réseau de leaders, hommes et femmes, avec pour objectif de mettre fin aux discriminations de genre. En quatre ans, le réseau a rallié plus de 350 Champions actifs et anciens Champions provenant d'organisations internationales, d'ambassades, d'organisations de la société civile ou du secteur privé. Il s'est exporté à New York, Vienne, Nairobi, La Haye, et désormais Paris.
Parmi les membres fondateurs du hub de Paris figurent les chef(fe)s de l'OCDE, de l'UNESCO, de l'Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, le Directeur de Plan International France et le doyen de l'École des affaires internationales de Paris à Sciences Po.
A l'ouverture du Forum de la Paix de Paris, le Secrétaire général de l'ONU António Guterres a déclaré:
Je suis également heureux que le hub français du réseau International Gender Champions, lancé à Genève en 2015 et dont je suis honoré de faire partie, soit inauguré demain.
IGC-Paris sera lancé au Forum de la Paix de Paris le 12 novembre 2019 avec la participation exceptionnelle du Président Emmanuel Macron.
"En étant sélectionné par le Forum de la paix de Paris comme l'un de ses dix projets gagnants pour une gouvernance mondiale innovante l'année dernière, IGC a été reconnu comme un puissant catalyseur pour engager les dirigeants à travers le monde à réaliser des changements significatifs en faveur de l'égalité des sexes" a déclaré Arancha González, Présidente du Conseil global d’IGC, "Je suis ravie qu’un an plus tard, nous saisissions cette opportunité pour étendre notre portée vers une nouvelle ville-clé et suis certaine que cela nous aidera à renforcer notre impact dans de nouveaux secteurs et zones d'influence".
En adhérant au réseau, les Champions s'engagent à ne plus participer à des panels exclusivement masculins ou féminins (conformément à l’Engagement de Parité dans les Panels) et à prendre deux engagements supplémentaires chaque année pour faire avancer l'égalité des sexes dans leur organisation ou leur travail programmatique.
Les engagements pris par les Champions de Paris incluent par exemple "l'augmentation du nombre de cours sur les questions de genre" (Enrico Letta, École des affaires internationales de Paris, Sciences Po) ; "la réalisation d'une évaluation annuelle pour suivre les progrès en matière d'égalité des sexes" (Yvan Savy, Plan International France) ; et "la promotion de l'égalité des sexes aux postes de direction" (Anna Brandt, Ambassadrice, Délégation permanente de la Suède à l'OCDE et l'UNESCO).
Les Champions sont responsables des progrès réalisés au cours de l'année. Ils se réunissent également pour avancer l’égalité des sexes dans le cadre de Groupes d’impact sur la représentation, le commerce, le désarmement, la justice et les standards.
